BETWEEN

RIGOR & ART

Bruno Bispo is the result of a lifelong dialogue between two seemingly different worlds: the structured rigor of Law and the visceral emotion of the Classical Guitar. Known in the academic world as Prof. Bruno Grego, he has always found in the guitar a sanctuary of expression and a mirror for his intellectual journey. To Bruno, music is not a secondary pursuit, but a constant mentor that has shaped his discipline and fueled his spirit through decades of international service and academic life.

His work is a sincere exploration of the crossroads where baroque and romantic standards, Brazilian folk heritage, and contemporary echoes meet. By approaching modern themes with the same reverence as the great masters, Bruno invites the audience to a listening experience that is both disciplined and deeply felt – a synthesis of a life dedicated to the pursuit of harmony in all its forms.

With the rich, seasoned sonority of a 1985 Di Giorgio guitar, crafted from Brazilian Rosewood and German Spruce, Bruno Bispo builds a bridge between the tradition of Brazilian lutherie and the universality of contemporary and popular music. It is a concert experience that invites the audience to rediscover the harmonic complexity and narrative power of modern works, treated with the passion and sobriety that the international classical stage demands.

THE

MUSICIAN

As a musician, Bruno Bispo sees himself as a student of the guitar's endless possibilities. His playing is an honest reflection of his Brazilian roots – a quintessential synthesis where Italian and Portuguese tradition dialogues with the rhythmic soul and resilience of his African and Indigenous ancestry. This multiracial heritage is the foundation of his musicality, allowing him to navigate diverse repertoires with a touch that is both grounded and refined.

Under the stage name Bispo – a tribute to his father, Elizeu Bispo –, Bruno Bispo explores a sonic territory where classical counterpoint and the dramaturgy of metal converge. Along with the staple standards of a classical guitar repertoire, his interpretations transcend genres, revealing the Bach-inspired harmonies hidden within contemporary themes, performed with the identity of someone who understands music as a profound form of thought.

His current project is born from a desire to bridge the gap between tradition and the contemporary world. From solo guitar arrangements of iconic Brazilian folk songs to neoclassical and symphonic themes, Bruno Bispo reimagines diverse musical landscapes through a formal classical lens. He approaches each piece with the dedication of a lifelong devotee, striving to preserve the emotional core of the music while enriching it with nuanced textures and technical sobriety.

THE INSTRUMENT

1985 Di Giorgio "Bel Son"

The sonic essence of the project lies in an instrument of profound historical lineage: the 1985 Di Giorgio "Bel Son" ("Beautiful Sound"). Crafted during a golden era of Brazilian lutherie, after the death of Romeo Di Giorgio but at the height of Reinaldo Di Giorgio's skill – a lutherie house with over 115 years of history –, this specific model features a solid Brazilian Rosewood body and a solid German Spruce top. After four decades of natural maturation, these precious tonewoods provide an impressive projection and deeply seasoned harmonics. More than a mere tool for performance, this guitar is a cultural heritage piece that carries the soul of the Brazilian classical tradition within its fibers.

Its unique sonority serves as the foundation for the fusion between Baroque rigor and the aesthetic density of Contemporary music. While the deep, resonant lows of the Rosewood sustain the harmonic power of epic compositions, the crystalline brightness and immediate response of the Spruce allow intricate counterpoint and neoclassical textures to emerge with absolute clarity. For Bruno Bispo, this Di Giorgio is not just a tool, but a partner that has seasoned with age, reflecting a 40-year journey of wood and wisdom.

THE

JOURNEY

Bruno Bispo's trajectory is not that of a traditional concertist, and he embraces that uniqueness with gratitude.

Bruno's musical training began at the age of seven, studying theory and piano under Rolando de Castro. From the age of twelve into adulthood, Bruno’s musical foundation was built under the tutelage of Arnaldo Ribeiro, alongside André Zambaldi and Luís Fernando Gonçalves. This formative and productive period was marked by performances for public and private institutions, including several editions of the Mostra de Violão Popular, and was distinguished by the Planeta Música Guitar Prize.

While his professional path led him to a international legal career – holding a PhD from the University of São Paulo and serving as a Full Professor at the Pontifical Catholic University –, music remained an inseparable part of his identity. During his tenure with institutions such as the United Nations Human Settlements Programme and the University of Notre Dame Australia, Bruno has always performed as a way of connecting with the world beyond the legal halls. From Perth to Oslo, and Quito to Glasgow, Bruno has consistently performed while serving in global legal and academic capacities, as in his 2013 Australian tour, when he performed the Stonehenge Recital while simultaneously lecturing and collaborating with state legal institutions across the continent. Expanding upon this foundation, Bruno undertook studies in Music Theory at the University of Edinburgh and in Guitar Performance at the Berklee College of Music – a life lived between the lecture and the lyric.

This professional trajectory has imprinted a unique methodical depth onto Bruno’s musicality. Now, at forty, Bruno Bispo reaches a milestone where his professional stability allows for a deeper, more focused dedication to his musical roots. His music today is a celebration of this maturity: a disciplined approach to the strings fueled by the profound emotion and heritage of a journey that was never just about the destination, but about the devotion to the craft.
